Surprising Truth About Nightshade Vegetables and Pain

By Tom Woloshyn, The Lemonade Guy

Many years ago, I was getting sick and feeling quite unwell for several days and then I would be fine again, followed by the same cycle over and over.  I could not figure out what was going on and many people who had never seen me unwell started asking what was going on.  I could not answer them, as this was at a time in my life when I was very healthy and seemed to be the poster boy of health.  I decided to do what I always tell my clients to do, which is to ask yourself repeatedly “Why am I sick?” and wait for the answer to appear or show up in some way.  After about two days, I was sitting in my living room just before supper and I asked myself this question.  I turned my head and looked at the dish I had prepared for my meal as a voice in my head said, “It’s because you are eating that!”

“That” was eggplant parmesan made with tomato sauce and two or three types of bell peppers.  This was a dish full of members of the nightshade family, which includes eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers, potatoes and tobacco. These foods contain nicotine, solanine  and other compounds which are alkaloids that are toxic to your body.  There are not enough of these compounds in the nightshade family of foods to kill you, just enough to potentially make your life miserable.  These alkaloids exacerbate any pain or inflammation you may have in your body and can cause headache and migraine pain as well as cause arthritis pain to be much more extreme. People have reported they can cause cold sore breakouts and herpes to be more painful as well.  Wow, why don’t people know this? Well, for myself, I believed all vegetables were good for my body, but this experience clearly showed me otherwise from what I thought I knew.  I had to be more aware of all the different foods going into my mouth and take note of how my body felt.

When I worked in Toronto, I treated many people with pain and other inflammatory conditions.  All I had to do was put them on a Master Cleanse for 10 days and get them off these “favorite foods,” teach them about alternates to the nightshades, and their pain condition, headaches or sinus infections, etc. would go away.  One client in particular, I remember well, was 22 years of age and had lupus, a chronic low grade fever, rheumatoid arthritis and constant fatigue.  When I asked her what she ate, she told me all of the nightshade family foods listed above and I responded by telling her that this was why she was in my office.  She then complained, “but these are my favorite foods!” I said “I know, that is why you are here”.

She did 10 days of the Master Cleanse along with Vita-Flex treatments and colon lifts.  During a follow up treatment she said to me, “You know, I did not believe you about the nightshade family, so one day I ate them at a meal, and in 15 minutes every symptom that had gone away during the cleanse came back!”  She of course stopped consuming foods in the nightshade family after this, and returned to her symptom-free state.

This is the best way to see if there is truth in what you read or hear.  Put it to the test and see what happens for you.  Stop eating eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers, and potatoes(this does not include sweet potatoes) for two weeks and then eat them all in one or two meals.  See how you feel, and then make your own conclusion from your personal experience.
